Luther was KIA  when the USS Franklin was hit by Bomb strike from a Japanese dive Bomber, off Honshu, Japan , on Dec. 19, 1945, he is honored with a  Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon,  Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

 Luther is buried/mentioned at Honolulu Memorial Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
