Banks, Coleman Cade

Private Coleman Cade Banks was after his Enlistment assigned to the 31st infantry Regiment. He escaped into the jungle when Bataan forces were surrendered on 09 April 1942 to the Japanese. Coleman fought as a guerrilla in the 26th Cavalry Regiment, Philippine Scouts. He was captured by the Japanese and executed at Bilibid Prison.

Camp Bilibid

Former Civilian prisoners converted the Prison to a POW camp, hospital and transit Camp for POWS. Almost every man captured on Corregidor passed through this camp at one time or another. As it was a transit point for movement to other camps First major use as transit point for high ranking officers from Bataan and for all men from Corregidor. He became a POW and was imprisoned at Pow Camp Bilibid (Manila).

 

Coleman is born approx. on 15 July 1915 in Hartburg, Texas.

Coleman enlisted the service in Texas with service number # 18042131.

 

Coleman died as a POW in POW Camp Old Bibilid on 30 Sep. 1943, he is honored with a POW Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

Coleman is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
