Carroll died of his wounds on 12 December 1941, sustained during the Japanese Air Attack on 10 Dec. 1941 at Nichols Field, Luzon, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

He was properly buried on the Base when it was still under American Authority, during the war its place was forgotten or the person responsible for burial was killed.

Carroll is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
