Joseph died when they returned from the mission there apparent experienced mechanical problems, the tower received a distress call, and it is believed that they ditched into the sea on 28 Nov. 1944, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

Joseph is buried/mentioned at Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu County, Hawaii U.S.A.
