Edward was KIA when he was shot down by a Japanese Fighter in the Battle for Coral Sea on May 7, 1942, he is honored with a  Purple Heart, American Defense Medal with Star, Navy Cross with Star, Air Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Edward is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
