The Imperial Japanese began their Invasion in the Philippines on 8 Dec 1941.

The 194th resorted to fighting  and was among American and Filipino forces  when compelled to surrender on 9 Apr 1942.

Staff Sergeant Carl F. Abbott became a POW and was imprisoned at Pow Camp Cabanatuan, He survived the Bataan Death March, but died shortly after it.

Carl is born in 1907 in Soledad, California.

 Carl enlisted the U.S.Army in California with serial # 20900646.

Carl died in Cp. Cabanatuan from Malaria on Oct. 3, 1942, Staff SergeantCarl F. Abbott is honored with a Purple Heart, P.O.W. Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

Jean is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
