Kullervo was KIA due to Engine Trouble with the plane and they probably crashed in India, on Aug. 7, 1943, Technical Sergeant Kullervo T. Aaltonen is honored with a  Silver Star Medal, Heart, American Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

Kullervo is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
