Victor was KIA when close to Japanese main land the ship was attacked by a plane who threw a few bombs that severely damaged the ship on March 19, 1945, Radarman Victor E Abate is honored with a  Combat Action Medal, Purple Heart, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Victor is buried/mentioned at Honolulu Memorial Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
