 Herman enlisted the service with serial # 4097368.

 

Herman was KIA during the Island Strike on Bougainville, when he was attack by several enemy Fighters, and was shot down on Feb. 14, 1943, Aviation Machinist ‘s Mate Third Class Edwin R. Abbott is honored with a  Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Herman is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
