Joseph was KIA during the Battle off Guadacanal when the Ship was Sunk by Japanese Aircraft, on Feb. 1, 1943, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Joseph is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
