Philip was KIA when it was attacked and Sunk by the Japanese Navy at Guadalcanal on Nov. 13, 1942, Seaman First Class Philip W. Ackerman is honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Philip is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
