Uhland was KIA After a successful bombing run they were attacked by a Japanese fighter plane which damaged their #2 engine and eventually the B-24 caught fire. They crashed near Wewak on , he is honored with a  Purple Heart, Air Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
