William was KIA  when the ship first was hit by an Kamikaze and then a Torpedo from the Japanese forces at Lingayen Gulf, on Jan .7, 1945, he is honored with a  Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.


William is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
