Donald was KIA  when the ship was hit by a Torpedo Strike in the Battle of Leyte , on Oct.  29,  1944, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Donald is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
