John enlisted the service in Florida with service number # 8307054.

 

John died  when a kamikaze pilot crashed with his biplane his bomb load exploded on the destroyer Callaghan, west of the southern tip of Okinawa. The attack by this training plane carrying a bomb killed 47 crewmen and one officer, on July 28,  1945, he is honored with a Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

John is buried/mentioned at Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
