John was KIA when the USS Belleau Wood was attacked and hit by a Kamikaze plane east off Leyte Gulf on Oct. 30, 1944, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

John is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
