Harper was KIA when the USS Houston was attacked by Japanese Destroyers and sunk during the Battle of Sunda Strait on March 1, 1942, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

Harper is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
