James died when he had engine problems and landed on the sea, he probably drowned on March 25, 1945, he is honored with an Air Medal with 7 Gold Stars, Distinguished Flying Cross with Gold Star, Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Expeditionary Medal, American Campaign Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

James is buried/mentioned at Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu County, Hawaii U.S.A.
