Rex was KIA during the Battle for Okinawa a kamikaze hit the USS Maryland and caused an explosion and fire’s onboard on April 7, 1945, he is honored with a Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Expeditionary Medal, American Campaign Medal, Navy & Marine Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.
