Verden was KIA during the fights with the Japanese for the occupation on Corregidor Island on Jan. 2, 1942, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, American Campaign Medal, Navy & Marine Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.
