Wallace was KIA when the USS Boise as part of Task Force came under fire from various Japanese Navy vessels and being hit with Gun and Shell Fire several times, during the Battle of Cape Esperance on 11/12 Oct. 1942/died on,  he is honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Expeditionary Medal, American Campaign Medal, Navy & Marine Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

Wallace is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
