Bert died of his wounds sustained during the fights with the Japanese over the Luzon Plains (Putlan) on March 21, 1945, he is honored with a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Infantry Badge, Marksmanship Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

Bert is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
