George was KIA on Combat Air Patrol when his plane collided with a other one on 23 October, 1944, he is honored with a Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Expeditionary Medal, American Campaign Medal, Navy & Marine Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

A day after his accident, the USS Princeton (CVL-23) got Scuttled after being severely damaged by Japanese air attack on 24 October 1944 in the Battle of Leyte Gulf.

 

George is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
