Alan died on a administrative flight that was planned with a stopover at Tadji Airfield, West Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea. But they never arrived there (reason unknown) on 8 July 1944, he is honored with an Air Medal, Aviator Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.
