James died non Battle, he was waiting to get transferred to the United States when the accident occurred on Panay Island, Philippines on 25 August 1945,  he is honored with a Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

James is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.

James also has a Memorial Grave at Loving Cemetery, Loving, Young County, Texas, USA.
