Samuel was KIA on patrol attacked enemy destroyers, she was hit by several gunfire and a torpedoed from them at Vella Lavella , she was sunk on Okt. 7, 1943,  he is honored with a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Expeditionary Medal, American Campaign Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

Samuel is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
