Nicholas  was KIA at Bataan Peninsula defending Philippine soil against the Japanese occupation on, 3 June 1942, he is honored with a Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, Army & Air Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

Nicholas is buried at Libingan ng mga Bayani, Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
