Earl was KIA when the USS Wasp got a spray of multiple torpedoes from the Japanese I-19 on Sep. 15, 1942, and he is honored with the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.


Earl is buried at Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
